College Catering Student receives Lowestoft Lions Award
At a special ceremony held at Potters Leisure Resort, Hopton, talented students were recognised for their hard work and dedication at the East Coast Colleges Celebration of Achievement ceremony. Originally a Lowestoft College event this was the first awards ceremony held by East Coast College following the merger of Lowestoft and Gt Yarmouth colleges.
Amongst the students receiving recognition for their efforts was catering scholar Britney Stannard.
Lions Derrick Yellowley and Ivan Gilbert were on hand to present the Hospitality and Catering Student of the Year Award to Britney.
Lowestoft Lions club sponsored the award in memory of Lion Andrew Willows who had been a member of Lowestoft Lions for 25 years before he died suddenly in July 2013 at the age of 66.
Mr. Willows was an experienced caterer having begun his career in catering when he was 16. He ran his own restaurant – Andrew’s in Waterloo Road – and five other restaurants in the town including the Jolly Sailors pub in Pakefield, the George Borrow, the Norman Warrior and Gambanas in Duke’s Head Street.
Andrew’s widow Dominique had asked that donations in his memory be made in favour of Lowestoft Lions and the club decided it would be appropriate that an Andrew Willows Memorial Catering Bursary award would be made to the most deserving catering student from the college
This is the third year that the award and bursary has been presented and it is intended to continue making the award for at least another seven years.
