Lions help local students to go to world dance competition
A request from a mum to help with the costs of sending her daughter and a friend to represent England in the Dancing World Cup in Barcelona has met with a favourable response from Lowestoft Lions.
Two Lowestoft students are part of a group of nine dancers who have been selected to represent their country at the prestigious Dance World Cup 2018 as part of Team England.
The two students are members of the DPA Academy of Dance and Performing Arts group, which is a charity based in Gorleston. They were thrilled to learn that one of their contemporary group routines and a contemporary solo has been selected out of hundreds of routines nationwide to represent England in Barcelona from 26 June to 30 June 2018. By being part of Team England it will give them the potential to win a world dance title.
Each of the nine students needs to raise approximately £1000 to cover flights, accommodation, competition fees and costumes; and the DPA competition team have already been busy with fundraising. They have arranged tombolas, raffles, bag packing and public performance events to raise funds.
They also provided a face painting service at the Lions Easter Egg Trail at Sparrow’s Nest Gardens on Easter Sunday.
Now Lowestoft Lions have agreed to donate £50 each to the two dancers from Lowestoft to help with expenses. Colleagues at Great Yarmouth Lions Club are providing financial support for dancers from their area.
Lowestoft Lions President Derek Ward said, “we send our best wishes to all the local dancers, who will be competing with over 5000 dancers from around the world and representing England in in Barcelona.
