PDG LION DAVID WOODRUFF – R.I.P.

It is with great sadness that we announce that Past District Governor (PDG), Lion David Woodruff passed to higher service on March 11, 2018
PDG Lion David was born in Lowestoft and was a longstanding member of Lowestoft Lions Club until transferring to Beccles Club a few years ago, serving as a member of the Lions organization for more than 45 years,

We pay tribute to Lion David for his commitment as a dedicated charity man and for one particular project, which saw 100,000 shoeboxes of gifts sent to war-torn Bosnia in 1996.
David helped to organise the shoebox appeal for children in Bosnia and Serbia, successfully receiving enough gifts from members of the public to send more than 100,000 shoeboxes in trucks from Lowestoft to the country. He later wrote a book about his time in the war-torn region.

In 2002 David rose to the rank of District Governor with the Lions, and in more recent years helped organise the Lions’ Fun Day at Great Yarmouth Racecourse and Hippodrome Circus, which gave more than 200 deserving children and their families from across East Anglia a day out to remember.
David Woodruff was described as a “loving, caring man” by family following his death aged 79 after multiple health problems.

He will be greatly missed by many in Lions clubs across East Anglia and our thoughts are with his family.
