New Club President Installed

The presidency of Lowestoft Lions club is usually for a year, before handing over to another – and at a changeover dinner held recently, a new president was installed into the role
Outgoing president Lion Derek Ward did the honours at the meal at Ivy House Country Hotel attended by many members, guests and their partners – by handing over the president’s chain of office to Lion Michael Cook.

Michael had previously been the president in 1980 and gave a light-hearted resume’ of what had happened in the years immediately before and during his previous presidency – recorded by Fred Wilcox, the secretary at the time.
Lions Alan Hubbard, Peter Mitchell, Derrick Yellowley, Ivan Hall, Ian Fox, George Day, Peter Stott were also members of the club back then.Lion Michael said “It was surprising how little has changed apart from a different membership and the fund raising events. The enthusiasm is still there, but the bodies are a little bit more fragile. During my presidency I will be making every effort to recruit a few more members and particularly younger ones.”Lion Michael then presented long service awards to Peter Mitchell (40yrs), Robin Smith (20yrs) and David Fisk (10yrs).
